HiSCS accomplished the installation of the monitoring system in an old arched road bridge located in continental Greece (Karpenisi area).
RC Bridge characteristics:
Span: 45.11m
Total length: 85m
Deck width: 10m
The monitoring system consists of:
16 axial deformation sensors using the technology of fiber optics
2 acceleration sensors
1 thermometer
2 solar panels as autonomous power system
2 telecommunication and 2 recording panel systems
All above apparatus was installed using a special bridge platform vehicle.
The project named “SMART BRIDGES” concerns the assessment of structures all over Greece where state-of-the-art systems will monitor their behaviour in Real Time following Structural Health Monitoring (RTSHM) methodologies by sending traffic and earthquake loading states automatically to a central platform, where structural analysis using a specialized software will evaluate the structural identity and alerting the road Operators and bridge Owners for any ubnormal – beyond limit status.
HiSCS is proud to participate in this project contributing to the transformation of the Nation’s aging bridges, into “smart” ones with real-time assessment of their structural and functional adequacy.
