HiSCS was involved in evaluating the structural response of an existing comercial reinforced concrete building through a series of load tests. Constructed in the early 1970s, the building incorporates twelve prestressed concrete beams supporting the roof slab above the ground floor.
A total load of 1,600 kg (1,6 tons) was gradually applied in each test using steel blocks transported to the inaccessible rooftop by a truck-mounted crane.
The loads were applied along the centreline of the beam’s width (b), following predefined loading stages and holding periods. Beam deflections were monitored at midspan and at the edge using surveying equipment and dedicated targets. The beam’s span (L) and width (b) were determined through a dedicated topographic survey of the rooftop to ensure accurate positioning of the test loads.
This investigation provided valuable data for assessing the beam’s structural response and supporting the evaluation of the building’s structural performance.
